Pasmo (パスモ Pasumo?) is a rechargeable contactless smart card ticketing system for public transport introduced in Tokyo, Japan, on March 18, 2007. Pasmo is a development of the Passnet (パスネット Pasunetto?) system used by many non JR railway lines in the Tokyo region as its shown in pasmo map. The system offers interoperability with the JR Suica system, as well as integrates private bus companies into the existing Passnet network. The technology is based on RFID technology developed by Sony corporation known as FeliCa. Pasmo is available as a credit-card sized card.
To save you time and the hassle of trying to work out the cost of fares, fumbling with unfamiliar coins and lining up at crowded ticket vending machines, travelers are strongly advised to buy a pre-paid pass for trains and subways in major Japanese cities such as Tokyo and Osaka. Each region transport IC card (for use on trains, buses, taxis, subways and even in convenience stores and certain shops) are fully interchangeable. Therefore Pasmo and Suica IC cards in Tokyo, Manaca in Nagoya, Kitaca in Hokkaido, Nimoca in Oita Prefecture, Toica (for JR Lines in the Chubu area around Nagoya), Icoca (Osaka, Kyoto and Kobe), Hayakaken (Fukuoka) and Sugoca (Fukuoka Prefecture) can be used anywhere throughout Japan as its mentioned in pasmo map.
